The chief advantage of spray on tans is that they are easy to apply evenly. Many lotions require an even application which can be difficult, especially in hard to reach spots like your shoulder blades. Spray on products tend to show fewer streaks and tan lines, because it has been sprayed evenly over the skin surface.
Spray tanning and other sunless tanning products also require less "hands on" application, which is good because Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active ingredient in all self tanning products, can be hard to clean off of your hands following application.
Self tanning spray is easy to use and it requires specific frequency of application, depending on the skin type and tone. For example, fair-haired people should use the spray less frequently, for better safety. You will find that spray tanning systems tend to dry much faster than lotions, gels, or mousses, which means you can get your tan on and get dressed much more quickly.
Sunless spray tanning comes in many forms. One of the first forms to hit the market was airbrush tanning. That is using a regular airbrush to apply a sunless tanning solution. Then about the same time sunless spray booths were introduced like the Mystic Tan.
Several other manufacturers have introduced their spray tanning booth since then. After the airbrush spray tanning manufacturers introduced the HVLP spray tanning. This is the high volume low pressure sprayer. This allowed a technician to spray tan their customer in less than 2 minutes.
